Based on how much the crown paid gravediggers in the aftermath to clean up the mess, the number in Pairs was at least 2000. (It didn't help that the cease and desist was contradicted, then reissued several times, showing the vacillation of Charles IX.) Even today, no-one knows how many died, because Protestant and Catholic sources give wildly different numbers. Killings continued into the autumn despite a royal cease-and-desist being issued on August 25th. Commoner and noble suffered alike: Huguenot shops were looted and burned, mostly by their fellow civilians roused to mob violence and Coligny's family and servants, and Henry de Navarre's attendants staying within the Louvre were killed by Catholic nobles, Swiss mercenaries, and the royal guard! The spark caught and the fire spread outside the city, into the countryside as well. De Guise, who had a grudge against Coligny, went with the Royal guards to finish him off, but was also heard to say "Kill them all-it is the King's command!" Was he just talking to his men about the other assassinations on their list? Regardless, excitable crowds took this as an order to murder their hated neighbors. At dawn on August 24th, the murders began, and quickly got out of hand. Annabelle gave and gave, and in return she continued to receive an endless amount of yarn. From this ending, I found the big idea is you get what you give. Eventually, it flows back to Annabelle who surprisingly finds the box isn't empty and continues to knit. But once he gets it, he finds the box is empty and tosses it into the water. But Annabelle, politely denies his offer. People around the world begin to hear of this box full of endless, colorful yarn, so the archduke tries to buy it from Annabelle. For example, Nate makes fun of her and her dog's sweater by laughing "you two look ridiculous." But instead of getting upset or angry, Annabelle knits Nate a sweater anyway and he likes it. She is kind and giving to everyone, even those who make fun of her. The change in color completely transforms the town and the mood of the story. But, they quickly gain color as Annabelle knits everyone and everything a sweater. The town and people appear colorless and are placed against a white background. This box of yarn seems endless as she makes colorful sweaters for everyone and everything in town, even animals, houses, and trucks. "Extra Yarn" is a story of a small, cold, colorless town and Annabelle who finds a box filled with colorful yarn. He eventually admits, in a way, that he had an affair with Abigail, but things have already gone too far, and the time for honesty has passed.Ībigail Williams is the niece of Reverence Parris. Proctor can’t admit that he had an affair with Abigail due to his own misguided pride. This incites Williams’ jealousy over Proctor’s wife, Elizabeth, and initiates the conflict at the heart of the play. His major character flaw becomes clear when he has an affair with Abigail Williams, a local woman. He can be quite stern but is generally a good man who cares about people.
